Four coaxial planetary stages cascade speed reduction and torque multiplication. Stage 1 handles the high-speed motor input; each successive stage multiplies torque while halving speed. The 4-stage design uses a dual-seal output shaft arrangement ?? a primary FKM lip seal plus a labyrinth ?? providing redundant protection against dust and slurry ingress in the slow-speed, high-torque industrial environments where EQ4 units are most commonly deployed.

All four stages use 17CrNiMo6 carburised and ground steel gears. Output stage planet journals run on needle roller bearings with hardened pins for maximum radial stiffness.
