The EP-PWD2100 operates on the epicyclic (planetary) gear principle. The input sun gear meshes simultaneously with multiple planet gears orbiting around it, enclosed within an internally toothed ring gear fixed to the housing. This load-sharing arrangement distributes torque across several contact points simultaneously, achieving far greater torque density than parallel-shaft designs.
An optional integrated multi-disc wet brake is spring-engaged / hydraulically released, providing fail-safe load holding. The output drum flange is directly splined to the planet carrier, giving a rigid, zero-play load path.

The housing is cast from high-grade ductile iron (GGG50) machined to ISO tolerances. Internal gears are manufactured from 20CrMnTi alloy steel, carburised, quenched and ground to DIN 5 accuracy. Planet pin bearings use double-row tapered roller bearings pre-loaded to minimise radial play. Shaft seals are FKM-grade fluoroelastomer, resistant to synthetic gear oils and hydraulic fluid contamination.
