The three-stage arrangement uses a helical-cut first stage to absorb high-speed input from the travel motor with reduced noise and vibration. The torque amplified by stage 1 feeds into stages 2 and 3 (straight-cut, optimised for torque density), achieving the rated output ratio at the sprocket shaft.
The multi-disc wet brake between the motor interface and stage 1 is hydraulically released during travel and spring-applied at all other times. The disc stack is oil-cooled via a dedicated internal oil circulation groove, extending brake life in high-frequency stop-start duty.

The straight-cut second and third stages use 20CrMnTi steel ground to the same accuracy class. The housing bore is hard-anodised internally in the bearing zones to provide an interference-fit surface that resists fretting corrosion under vibration loading.
